I am a well-rounded, well-educated person with many years of varied work experience. I currently work for LSA Associates, Inc. as a GIS and Graphics Specialist and head of the GIS/Graphics Department. My responsibilities include creating many map products for use by clients and for analysis by the other disciplines in our firm. I have also done analysis for several projects. In addition to my cartographic duties, I also create and maintain their GIS data. I also design and create graphic products for LSA (report covers, posters, and more). GIS provides a perfect outlet for combining both my geologic and artistic passions. In previous positions with GIS companies, I created maps and graphics for a variety of purposes, I tested GIS software (extensions to ESRI products), wrote user help files for the software products, created graphics for advertising, posters and more, and maintained and updated the company website. In addition to my work responsibilities, I am involved in the community as a volunteer officer for the Inland Geological Society and as a committee chair for the Redlands Art Association. I have loved drawing for as long as I can remember. I took art classes in Jr. High and High School, graduating in 1966. I started as an art major at Cal State Fullerton (emphasis in ceramics) and took many classes over the next several years. When I was in the last half of my junior year, I changed my major to Earth Science. I earned an A.A. in Art from Fullerton College (1976) and a B.Sc. in Geological Science with a minor in Art from Cal State University, Fullerton (1994) and a GIS certificate in 1998. I earned a Master of Science in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in 2007. I have also taken ceramics classes (as well as an eclectic mix of other subjects) at Fullerton College, Chaffey College, Mt. San Antonio College and San Bernardino Valley College. My special artistic loves are ceramics and photography. I make stoneware and Raku ware (a special method of firing). All of my stoneware pieces are functional (bowls, mugs, vases, pitchers, etc.). Raku pieces generally should not be used with food or liquids because they have not been fired hot enough to seal (vitrify) the clay. I built my own kiln and most of the items I display were fired in it. Currently, photography is my main artistic outlet. In addition, I enjoy painting with watercolors and acrylics. I also create wearable art using acrylic fabric paints (mostly as gifts for family and friends). I love making beautiful things that people can use and enjoy.
I
exhibit and sell my work at the Redlands Art Association Gallery on a
continuous basis. I have also sold my work through the Riverside Art
Museum gift shop, gift stores in Redlands and at a number of Arts and Crafts fairs. |
